In May 2017, representatives of China's Tianjin Model Vocational Training College (TMVTC) and Pakistan's Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to train Pakistanis in a new Luban Workshop.
This is one of eight Luban Workshops sponsored by TMVTC-- the others are located in India, Britain, Indonesia, Cambodia, Portugal, and Djibouti. Luban was a Chinese craftsman and inventor who lived 2,500-years ago.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide vocational training and professional courses for local personnel so they can support Chinese enterprises.
More specifically, The Pakistani Luban Workshop has signed contracts with eight enterprises from both Pakistan and China including Haier and Huaneng Group to establish an education alliance integrating production and education. On January 16, 2019, the Luban Workshop in Pakistan started operations. The first batch of 25 Pakistani students began a six-month course taught by TMVTC teachers.
In February 2019, China's Central Committee and State Council called on Chinese vocational colleges to continue developing Luban Workshops overseas with support from the Chinese Ministry of Education.
