Grant Description

Urban neighborhoods in and around San Pedro Sula, Honduras, face gang violence, forced displacement and limited economic and educational opportunities for children and young people. These challenges often push families to leave in search of safety and better opportunities. The IAF supports community led solutions to enhance peace and security and create alternatives to migration.

IAF grantee Warriors Zulu Nation Honduras (WZNH), which takes its name from a New York city youth group promoting positive transformation through creative activities, empowers children and young people in the Chamelecon and Rivera Hernandez neighborhoods of San Pedro Sula through leadership development via the arts and sports, training in human rights, and support to help youth form their own organizations to create healthy alternatives to violence in their communities.

This grant advances the IAF?s strategic initiative to address the drivers of migration by promoting community resilience and rootedness in Central America.
