Grant Description

Salvadorans have been dealing with various forms of violence for more than 30-years.

With gang-on-gang violence decreasing recently and communities better able to access urban spaces previously controlled by gangs, these areas now require more attention to address their food security needs and increase their ability to develop in a context free of violence.

The IAF supports community-led solutions to addressing chronic violence and rebuilding the social fabric of communities impacted by violence.

IAF grantee Centro de Bartolom de las Casas (CBC), a Christian foundation in San Salvador, is a recognized leader in promoting a culture of peace and addressing gender inequity.

With CBC, the IAF will promote urban green commons in Soyapango, in the municipality of San Salvador Este, as a space for disadvantaged communities to increase their food security, become more involved in decision-making, and promote gender equity and positive relationships among neighbors.
