Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture

Mafoota Agricultural Cooperative Society Limited (Mafoota) Small farmers in Jamaica are facing worsening climate conditions including increased droughts and hurricanes as well as agricultural pests.

The economic downturn stemming from the COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated already high rates of poverty migration and food insecurity in this region. The IAF supports community-led approaches to promoting communities? resilience and income generation.

Our grantee Mafoota Agricultural Cooperative Society Limited (Mafoota) is strengthening its operational and productive capacity partnering with a local credit union to develop a loan fund for members to improve their production and working to increase farmers? awareness of sustainable agricultural techniques and climate and disaster resilience practices.
