Grant Description

On December 23rd, 2016, the Chinese Government and Nepal signed an Economic and Technical Agreement (ETCA) providing a Rs 15.7 billion (RMB 1 million) grant to Nepal for post-earthquake reconstruction purposes.

The funds will be used to repair and improve the Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi section of the Galchhi-Trishuli-Rasuwagadhi Highway (see Record ID#71750) and renovating the Civil Service Hospital (see Record ID#71751). Some of the money will be spent on other unspecified reconstruction projects.

In January of 2018, a team from China has arrived in Nepal to study part of the Galchhi-Trishuli-Rasuwagadhi Highway which is being upgraded with Chinese aid.

The group, consisting of officials from the China Ministry of Commerce, will be conducting a feasibility study to improve an 18-km stretch from Syabrubesi to Rasuwagadhi.

This is one of the 25 projects promised by China after 2015 earthquake in Nepal to help with reconstruction (see Umbrella Record ID#43970).

📋 Staff Comments

The Chinese Government provided a grant for the Syaphrubesi-Rasuwagadhi Highway in 2007 (see Project ID#38360).
