Grant Description
On June 13, 2018, the Chinese Government agreed to provide an $85 million grant to the Government of Sri Lanka for the Hospital Facility Upgrading Project.
This project involves the upgrading of 13 hospitals: Dharga Town Regional Hospital, Aluthgama Regional Hospital, Mirigama Base Hospital, Sammanthurai Base Hospital, Eravur Base Hospital, Pottuvil Base Hospital, Kalpitiya Regional Hospital, Rakillagaskada Base Hospital, Medirigiriya Base Hospital, Padaviya Base Hospital, Walasmulla Base Hospital, Kalawana Base Hospital, and the Mahiyangana Base Hospital.
These hospitals will be developed to include outpatient clinics, clinical complexes, wards, maternity units, pharmacies, non-infectious diseases units, blood transfusion centers, laboratories, operating theaters, emergency treatment units, and many other service centers. CETC International Co., Ltd. is the contractor responsible for project implementation.
Project implementation began on June 15, 2018.

The Chinese project title is 斯里兰卡医院设施升级项目. China Eximbank initially indicated interest in supporting this project with a loan. However, the Chinese Government later decided to support it with a grant.
