Grant Description

In 2016, the Chinese Government provided a RMB 33.1 million grant for the 0.85 MW F-9 Park Solar Power Supply Project in Islamabad. The total project cost was approximately USD 4.8 million.

The purpose of this project was to install 3,400 solar panels on a 2.5 hectare portion of the 750 acre F-9 Park in Islamabad.

The plant has an installed capacity of 0.85 MW, which will be used to power streetlights in the park, lights in the children’s play area, the tennis court, cricket ground and a tube well installed in the park.

The system aims to provide a constant power supply to one of the city's key recreational attractions at a time when power cuts remain a major problem due to shortfalls on the grid.

China Railways 17th Bureau Group was the contractor responsible for project implementation and for maintaining the plant for five years.

The project was officially completed and handed over to the the National Assembly Secretariat on December 15, 2016-- two months ahead of schedule.

This project is also known as the F-9 Park Solar Lighting Project and the Fatima Jinnah Park Solar Lighting Project. The Government of Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division (EAD) records an RMB 45 million commitment value in its fiscal year 2015/16-year book; however, it downwardly revised this figure to RMB 33.1 million in its fiscal year 2016/17-year book.
