Grant Description

Coffee farmers in the department of Santa Barbara in western Honduras are increasingly vulnerable to adverse weather events and fluctuating market prices that can result in unpredictable labor markets income shortages and food insecurity.

At the IAF we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity and improve natural resource management in Honduras that provide productive alternatives to irregular migration.

Our grantee partner Proteccin Hondurea del Medio Ambiente (PROHMEDA) helps farmers boost their incomes and food security by encouraging them to diversify their crops adopt sustainable agriculture practices and better connect with markets.

PROHMEDA's activities also bolster the community's efforts to counteract environmental degradation and protect watersheds. This grant is part of the IAF's efforts to address the root causes of irregular migration in Central America.
