Improving livelihoods through community development

Communities in rural areas of Colombia previously controlled by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrillas (FARC in Spanish) have historically struggled to make a living.

Decades of violent conflict shattered social cohesion public infrastructure and services and incentives for private investment.

Colombia's peace agreement signed between the government and FARC in late 2016 opens the way for renewed investments by these communities striving to improve their livelihoods. At the IAF we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity and enhance peace and security.

Our grantee partner Corporacin Andares Ida y Vuelta (Andares) working closely with the Asociacin Campesina Agroecolgica del Oriente del Tolima provides training and technical assistance to help farming families benefit from the production and marketing of cacao bananas and other products with promising markets.This grant is part of the IAF's broader initiative to build a just and lasting peace in Colombia.

Amendment FY22: Esta enmienda otorga a Andares 18 meses adicionales y US$157.070 para fortalecer sus procesos actuales de desarrollo de capacidades con las ocho comunidades miembros de la Asociacin Campesina Agroecolgica del Oriente del Tolima Madre de Agua y promover prcticas agrcolas familiares sustentables, as como consolidar sus ingresos generando iniciativas productivas y de comercializacin.

Tambin permitir a la Asociacin adquirir una sede con una fbrica de produccin de chocolate, espacio para oficinas y habitaciones para que el personal las utilice cuando visitan las comunidades asociadas. Como parte de esta enmienda, Andares est movilizando US$132.685 adicionales en recursos de contrapartida.
