In 2014, the governments of China and Zimbabwe signed an RMB 50 million grant agreement for the provision of rice assistance. Then, on 16 March, 2015, the Chinese Government officially delivered 5,400 tons of rice to the Government of Zimbabwe. The donated rice was earmarked for Zimbabwean orphans and disabled persons.
The handover ceremony took place in the Grain Marketing Board Aspindale Depot at Harare.
Charge d’Affaires Cui Chun and Zimbabwe's Minister of Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare Mupfumira signed the acceptance certificate on behalf of their respective governments.
Charge d’Affaires, Cui Chun, stated at the ceremony that the donation represented the Chinese Government's willingness to support Zimbabwe in its efforts to increase food production and attain food security. This project is completed.
The Southern Eye source states that the 2015 donation was worth 'more than USD $8 million,' which is equivalent to the RMB 50 million worth of rice promised in 2014, which is why these commitments are coded as the same project.
