This amendment provides Red de Sobrevivientes with an additional 12 months and $20000 to address chronic violence.
Many communities throughout Latin America and Caribbean suffer cycles of violence that impact daily life across households neighborhoods and community institutions.
Chronic violence undermines economic development creates footholds for criminal groups leaves people traumatized weakens social support for democracy and drives many to migrate.
Red de Sobrevivientes will promote knowledge sharing and support a network to advance understanding of chronic violence how it comes to be seen as normal and grassroots practices that work to reduce cycles of violence over time.
Website Blurb: COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted people living with disabilities in El Salvador making it difficult or impossible for them to access physical and mental health services and income-generating opportunities.
Our grantee Fundacin Red de Sobrevivientes y Personas con Discapacidad (Red de Sobrevivientes) is educating people with disabilities about their human rights helping them access investment capital to strengthen their microenterprises offering psychosocial support and creating a national campaign to raise the public's awareness of the rights of people with disabilities throughout El Salvador.
By working with Red de Sobrevivientes to address these barriers people with disabilities are creating a viable future for themselves in their home country.
This grant is part of the IAF's efforts to address the root causes of irregular migration in Central America and IAF's broader COVID-19 response strategy.
