Grant Description

Smallholder avocado producers living in the Peruvian Highlands lack capital to invest in irrigation infrastructure and soil improvement to meet the heavy needs of avocado production. They also face unreliable markets and low prices due to low-quality fruit and reliance on intermediaries. The IAF supports small farmers in increasing their yields, product quality, and access to key markets.

Our grantee Centro de Estudios para el Desarrollo Regional (CEDER) supports 300 small-scale avocado producers to increase productivity and income by implementing cutting-edge, efficient, and sustainable water management systems and improved agricultural practices. CEDER also helps family farmers harness the potential of honeybees as essential pollinators and honey producers.

Finally, CEDER assists producers in preparing business and marketing plans tailored to their unique needs. This grant advances the IAF's strategic initiative to promote sustainable agriculture by strengthening food security efforts and supporting viable livelihoods.
