Grant Description

Smallholder farmers in El Salvador face a number of challenges, including lengthy drought conditions that threaten agricultural production and food security.

At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expanding economic opportunity and improving natural resource management through sustainable smallholder agriculture.

Our grantee partner, Federacin de Asociaciones Cooperativas de Aprovisionamiento y Produccin Agropecuaria de El Salvador (FEDECOOPADES), strengthens the organizational capacity of 12 member cooperatives through training focused on marketing and sustainable agricultural practices.

Member organizations, in turn, provide technical assistance to smallholder farmers to reduce water consumption and increase yields through sustainable agricultural methods such as intercropping, crop rotation, integrated pest management, organic agricultural inputs, and erosion prevention. This grant is part of the IAF's efforts to address the root causes of irregular migration in Central America.
