Grant Description

Grupo de Mulheres Negras (Mae Andresa), US$258,600, will undertake a three-year project to increase the income-generating potential of low-income female domestic workers in the City of So Luis.

The majority of these women are of African descent and will greatly benefit from the methodology of the program, which lays the groundwork for a mutual support network of domestic workers.

The program will prepare women to receive certificates in culinary arts, cleaning, restaurant management and entrepreneurship, and will include initial courses in self-esteem, citizenship, and life- skills.

At the end of the certificate program, participants will have access to small grants which will serve as seed capital for starting businesses.
