Grant Description

Voces por la Naturaleza in Mexico (SuMar) will increase the collective capacity of 10 local community-based enterprises to advocate for, design, and implement community-managed tourism initiatives in the Gulf of California of Mexico.

SuMar will offer training, technical assistance, small grants as seed capital and exchanges to develop quality and viable local initiatives.

It will document experiences and develop a network of small community- owned tourism enterprises that support species and habitat conservation, the Alianza Regional de Empresas Comunitarias de Turismo (ARECOT), to share experiences, generate greater regional impact and influence existing state and national government-sponsored tourism programs.

At least 292 members of the 10 groups will benefit directly from project activities and more than 600 residents will benefit indirectly.
