Grant Description

This program will test cacao cultivars for cadmium absorption in greenhouse and field settings, with the ultimate goal of distributing gene edited plants to farmers.

Beneficiaries of this activity are first increasing the scientific body of knowledge an providing the cacao sector with varieties of cacao that have reduced uptake of cadmium.

Other beneficiaries include cacao farmers and extension agents who will have access to the gene edited varieties developed by International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).
