Grant Description

On December 3, 2015, Fiji Roads Authority and the Chinese Government signed an RMB 91 million (FJD 15 million) grant agreement for the Stinson Parade Bridge and Vatuwaqa Bridge Reconstruction Project.

The purpose of this project was to reconstruct two bridges — the Stinson Parade Bridge and Vatuwaqa Bridge — in the capital city of Suva. Construction was originally slated for January 2015-2017.

However, it wasn't until late 2015, that the Fiji Roads Authority awarded a construction contract to China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (CRCC14). Project implementation commenced on December 3, 2015. The equivalent of 10,206,930 Fijian dollars were disbursed for the project between August 1, 2017 and July 31, 2018.

Both bridges were officially opened for use by Prime Minister Bainimarama on January 11, 2018. The original anticipated project completion date was May 15, 2018.
