China Development Bank offers line of credit worth EUR 540 million for various activities On May 27, 2011, during a meeting in Beijing between the civilian President of Myanmar, Thein Sein and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, the two signed a number of agreements, including a cooperation framework agreement for a line of credit to Myanmar via the China Development Bank.

The intended recipient is Myanmar’s Ministry of Taxation and Finance. The line of credit is worth 540 million euros and is for unspecified projects.

On May 28, 2011, China and Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of Muse-Kyaukpyu railway. As such, some sources indicate that the purpose of this credit line was to finance the 810-kilometer-long Muse-Kyaukpyu railway line on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.
