China Eximbank offers $197 million USD in export credits to Uzbekistan On June 8th, 2006, the Export-Import Bank of China agreed to offer $197 million USD export credits in Uzbekistan to three Uzbek banks for 5 projects.
The China Eximbank reports the three banks as the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzpromstroybank, and the Bank of IPOTAKA. It is unclear whether official agreements were signed.
From 2005-2006, China Eximbank signed agreements for 10 projects with three Uzbekistan banks totaling $397 million USD dollars worth of preferential export buyer's credit.
Among the 10 agreements, 5 agreements, worth $202.23 million USD, were under the frame work of $300 million USD preferential export buyer's credit framework established in 2004 (#39956).
The other 5 projects, worth $197 million USD, were under the framework of a $900 million USD credit line promised to SCO members by China. The export credits were intended to support oil and gas, irrigation, energy and other industries in the Uzbek economy. The specific sub-projects are unclear.
