SinoHydro signs MoU to finance and construct $300 million Nurobad-2 Hydroelectric Power Plant Project On August 27, 2008, the Chinese Government pledged to provide a $300 million loan for the Nurobad-2 hydroelectric power plant. The agreement was reached during talks between Chinese leader Hu Jintao and Tajik President Imomali Rakhmon.
The planned power plant, Nurobad-2, would have capacity of between 160 and 200 megawatts. China's Sinohydro was the implementing contractor of the project.
The proposed Nurabad-2 Hydro Power Project lies in the Tavildara District of the Region of Central Republican Subordination, Tajikistan. It was one of the two projects envisaged for harnessing the hydropower potential of River Obihingou. Nurobad-2 HPP was the upstream power scheme and Nurobad-1 was the downstream power scheme.
The Nurabad-2 HPP area was 205 kilometers away from Dushanbe.
Nurobad-2 was to be built near the confluence of the Surkhob and Khingob rivers, two tributaries of the Vakhsh, Tajikistan's largest river, according to Interfax. It appears that a Chinese Government loan agreement was never finalized for this project.
