Grant Description
In 2011, China sent the PLA (People's Liberation Army) Navy hospital ship Peak Ark on a voyage in the Western Hemisphere to provide humanitarian assistance.
The Peace Ark traveled through the Caribbean and South America, visiting Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica. It visited Jamaica from October 29 to November 4.
During its 7-day stay, the 100-strong health professionals from the ship conducted over 1500 outpatient consultations, 150 physical checks, 29 surgeries, 18 hospitalized treatments, 89 CAT scans, 307 doppler radar scans, 643 ultrasound scans, 258 ECGs and 499 other tests for local Jamaican people and Chinese diaspora in Jamaica.
The Olympic Garden Health Center in Kingston was overwhelmed daily by hundreds of local people seeking expedient and quality medical service when a Chinese medical team operated there for 4 days.
