Grant Description

As part of the 2005 memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed upon the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Chinese Government and the Government of Grenada (captured by Record ID#69383), the Chinese Government agreed upon to provide annual grant aid in the amount of $1 million USD to Grenada until 2009.

On May 28, 2008, the Chinese Government donated $1 million USD to Grenada as part of this past pledge.

The funds were intended to provide budgetary support, allow Grenada to carry development projects, and allow it to give back pay to Grenadian civil servants, per a recently signed collective bargaining agreement between the Grenadian Government and the Grenada Public Workers Union and the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers' Union.

The handover certificate signing ceremony on May 28 was attended by Prime Minister of Grenada Keith Mitchell.

📋 Staff Comments

As this was a cash donation, it is evident that all Chinese financing was disbursed, so the project was set to 'Completion.'
