Grant Description
Chinese Government to give $2.5 million interest-free loan to Jamaica to purchase water pipes via ETCA On January 23, 2003, the Chinese Government and the Government of Jamaica signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA).
The ETCA stated that the Chinese government would provide a $2.5 million interest-free loan to the Government of Jamaica to purchase water pipes for use by the government-owned National Water Commission (NWC). The loan was to carry no interest and disburse over a five year period, starting on February 1, 2003.
However, on May 7, 2020, the Government of Jamaica’s Ministry of Finance and Public Service provided AidData with a list of Chinese Government loans that the Government of Jamaica has contracted since 2000. It does not include a reference to a $2.5 million interest-free loan in 2003 for the acquisition of water pipes.
