Grant Description
On April 4, 2008, China and Papua New Guinea signed agreements under which China would grant aid assistance of 5 million PGK to PNG for economic cooperation (China in the Pacific: The New Banker in Town, Technical help deal with China).
PNG government asked the Chinese to transfer all grant facilities to a holding portfolio under the Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby for expenditure drawdown and accountability, especially on the part of PNG to the Government and the people of China. At the same time, a 2.15 million kina grant was signed.
The two agreements were for two separate grants already agreed and signed by the governments of PNG and China in 2007 on 30 March last year for 4.3m yuan (2.15m kina) and for 10m yuan (5m kina) last 6 September (
