The project, located in Muzaffargarh, was approved by the Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) on June 25, 2013. Construction was expected to start in 2015 and will be completed in four years.

The project was expected to cost 26 billion Rupees, but it is unclear how much China has helped and in what form the assistance was given. The project is currently being constructed, but no Chinese commitments have been made.
