China lends help for search and rescue efforts for Vietnamese fishermen after Typhoon Chanchu

On June 22, 2006, the Vietnamese government sincerely thanked the Chinese for its successful rescue efforts of missing Vietnamese fishermen during the typhoon.

China's maritime officials had rescued about 330 fishermen from the effects of Typhoon Chanchu near Dongsha Islands in the South China Sea between May 17th and 20th.

On Saturday, May 20th, rescue ship, Nanhaijiu 111, had provided 30 tons of fuel, 140 tons of fresh water, food and medicines to 14 fishing boats containing 306 fishermen total to help them sail back home.

On Wednesday, May 17th, another Chinese ship had rescued the Belgian freighter Pompei with 24 Vietnamese citizens aboard.

It was mentioned that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant departments and the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam to act quickly, to spend a lot of manpower, material and financial resources, emergency deployment of China's most advanced rescue boats rushed to the accident area, large continuous operating range, long time, successfully carried out a large-scale international maritime search and rescue operations.

In particular, China Transport Minister Li Shenglin personally took command, promote search and rescue operations achieved important results.

It is because China lend a helping hand, help, 330 Vietnamese fishermen to return to their homes, greatly reducing the losses caused by Typhoon Chanchu to Vietnam.
