On October 25, 2011, China's Minister of State Forestry Administration Jia Zhibang announced that China was prepared to assist the Heart of Borneo (HoB) initiative by offering its technical expertise and technology.
The HoB initiative is a conservation agreement by the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), signed in 2007 by neighbouring countries Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia, where they agreed to protect more than 200,000 square kilometres of rainforest on Borneo island. Jia Zhibang also stated that China would offer help to Malaysia and Indonesia as well.
The strategic objective of this program is to conserve and further develop the tropical rainforest in these areas.
China offers assistance for HoB initiative Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
