On August 5th, 2014, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced that the Chinese government would provide support and aid to Nepal after a deadly landslide blocked the Sunkoshi river in Nepal's Sindhupalchok (or Sindhupalchowk) district, causing significant flooding.
The landslide and subsequent flooding killed 156 people, swept away dozens of homes, and blocked the Araniko Highway, the main road connecting China and Nepal.
