Grant Description

On August 26 2008, China donated $100,000 to Laos in emergency relief after Mekong River flooding caused serious damage along the river areas from the north to the south of the country.

According to the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the People's Democratic Republic of Laos, the flood in Laos caused 675 villages in 53 counties in 8 provinces of Laos to be affected. More than 200,000 people were affected and 380,000 hectares of farmland were flooded.
