Grant Description
In December 2006, Chinese Ambassador Sun Heping and Nepal’s Secretary of Material Planning and Engineering Ministry signed an exchange of letters, which committed an unspecified amount of grant funding for the Birendra International Convention Center Maintenance Project.
The purpose of the project was to renovate the central air-conditioning system of the Birendra International Convention Center. An end-of-project inspection was conducted on August 7, 2007.
The International Convention Centre, formerly known as the Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC), is a major conference venue in Nepal. Located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, it currently houses the Federal Parliament of Nepal.
The complex uniquely blends Nepalese, Chinese and modern architecture to create a luxuriously decorated solid structure with multifunctional modern facilities. The BICC was formally inaugurated in 1993 and it was constructed with grant funding from the Chinese Government.
