Grant Description
Chinese Government provides $3.2 million loan for provision of a container scanner On December 24, 2007, the Chinese Government issued a $3.2 million loan to the Government of Suriname for the purchase and provision of an X-ray container scanner to be used at Suriname's main port, Nieuwe Haven.
Upon completion of the project, it was expected that the capacity of the port would increase significantly (from as baseline of 60-120 containers each day), as scanning a container with the new inspecting system will take less than 10 minutes.
The scanner was delivered by Nuctech Co Ltd, and was installed on January 15, 2009, although it was expected in August 2008.
