Grant Description

On December 20, 2014, the Chinese Government agreed to reschedule the Government of Sudan’s debt repayments in order to allow it to repay on a “more convenient timeline." It is unclear which loans were rescheduled.

Sudan's Minister of Finance Abdel Rahman Dirar said the Chinese Government had offered more "suitable time" for Khartoum to repay its debt without additional interest, but did not disclose additional details. Sudan's Minister of Finance attributed the delay in repayments to the 2011 secession of South Sudan.
