China Eximbank pledges $700 million for set of small dams for electricity generation and irrigation purposes In September 2009, the Government of Pakistan signed an MOU with China Eximbank for the construction of a series of small dams for electricity generation and irrigation purposes.
Under the terms of the MOU, China Eximbank would provide a $700 million line of credit and the Government of Pakistan would provide up to $300 million for the construction of 4 dams that would irrigate about 650,000 acres of barren land. According to the Sina article, the MoU will finance 12 small dams and 4 reservoirs.
China Eximbank subsequently committed Preferential Buyer's Credits (PBCs) for the Darawat Dam Project (ID#70753), the Ghabir Dam Project (ID#54137), the Nai Gaj Dam Project (ID#54138), and the Naulong Storage Dam Project (ID#70840).
