Grant Description

China has been sending medical teams to Zambia since 1978. Henan Province is responsible for sending the teams.

On April 9, 2007, the Chinese Government and the Government of Zambia signed a protocol agreement dispatching the 14th Chinese medical team to Zambia.

The 14th medical team included 28 members who were stationed at University of Zambia Teaching Hospital (also known as University Teaching Hospital), Ndola General Hospital, Livingstone Central Hospital, Kitwe Central Hospital, Thomson Hospital, and Kabwe General Hospital. The team completed its term of service between May 13, 2007 and April 21, 2009.

According to the agreement, the Government of Zambia was responsible for covering return trip plane tickets, housing, immigration fees, and emergency medical assistance and insurance.

The Government of China was responsible for plane tickets to Zambia, foreign language training, work compensation, and living expenses while serving in-country.

📋 Staff Comments

The Chinese medical teams that have been dispatched to Zambia since 1978 should not be confused with Chinese military medical teams, which have also been dispatched to Zambia. The Chinese military medical teams have been dispatched by the People's Liberation Army and not by Henan Province.
