Grant Description

On 2006, China and 17 other countries, many of them ASEAN countries, signed an inter-governmental agreement to build a Pan-Asian railway network, which would include a 81,000 km-long network which also links four key railways in different parts of Asia.

The railway is planned to have three routes from Kunming to Bangkok; one through Vietnam and Cambodia, one through Laos, and one through Myanmar. From Vietnam, further connections to Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore will be constructed.

The first section of this project to begin construction is the Kunming-Lao route, also known as the Kunming-Vientiane Railway Project in 2016 (see Record ID#33726 for more details). In 2017, the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section in Thailand began construction (see Record ID#34309).
