China's government has donated more than $60 million, sent four medical teams, and airlifted survival kits to countries hit by the Indian Ocean tsunami in January 2006.
The People's Liberation Army has airlifted nearly 500 tons of food, water, supplies, and medical and telecom equipment to affected areas, the WHO said.
In addition, with the large donation provided by the Chinese government, the Health Ministry has sent 164 medical personnel to Thailand and Sri Lanka to help save lives and prevent the spread of diseases that the WHO fears could dramatically raise the death count beyond the approximately 150,000 tsunami victims confirmed dead so far.
