Grant Description

On September 3, 2012, President Dr Mohamed Waheed and Premier Mr Wen Jiabao witnessed the signing ceremony of the agreement on economic and technical cooperation through which the government of China will provide 100m Renminbi Yuan as grant assistance to Maldives.

The signing of this economic and technological cooperation agreement follows an initial pledge of grant aid offered by Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Assembly of China, in late May 2011. It remains unclear what the funds will be used for.
