Grant Description

From July 5th to September 25th, 2009, the Training Course on Hybrid Rice Technology for Developing Countries was held in Changsha, Hunan Province, China. The training was funded through the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The training was implemented by Yuan Longping High-tech Agriculture Co., Ltd, and will have include China’s opening-up and reform, the development experiences of China’s agriculture, the development of the new countryside in China, agricultural economy, Chinese traditions and culture, the development, genetics, seed production, and field management of hybrid rice in China, molecular breeding, farm machinery, grain storing and processing, soil and fertilizer management, diseases, pests, and weeds control, plant protection and other related agricultural technologies.

According to the Hunan Government's photo gallery for the event, the training was attended by representatives from Guinea, the Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Morocco, Chad, Algeria, Burundi, Benin, Togo, Mali, the DRC, East Timor, as well as Brunei.

An old version of this project reported that the countries attending the course included Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Dominica, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea and Samoa, however, this source is no longer accessible so stage 2 coder has changed the description to reflect the available information. Additionally, this project has been marked as an umbrella project to avoid possible duplication.
