Grant Description

On January 7, 2003, China and Myanmar signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) for a grant of RMB 50 million. The grant was reported to support agricultural projects and three small-scale hydroelectric projects. The grant was secured in an agreement signed by Myanmar's Prime Minister Than Shwe.

The grant was intended to be used for the construction of a combine harvester plant in Ingone worth RMB 18 million (recorded in Record ID#49939), the construction of three small scale hydroelectric plants at Ngamoeyeik, Thonese, and Kanyin worth RMB 32 million (recorded in Record ID#49940), and a feasibility study on probation of quality sugarcane and cotton strains.
