On June 29, 2005, China granted 270 tons of canned fish worth $320,000 USD to Sri Lanka as part of its tsunami relief efforts. The aid was administered by the World Food Programme (WFP).
It is the first of two such shipments, worth a total of US$1 million, to support WFP food-for-work schemes to help Sri Lanka after the tsunami.
China contributed 63 million USD for tsunami relief in total, most of the individual projects are captured (see projects linked with resource #41811).
