Pursuant to economic and trade agreements signed during the 2006 FOCAC summit, the Chinese Government agreed to provide a grant to establish an anti-malaria center in Angola during the 2006 FOCAC summit between November 4-5. The value of this grant is unknown.
The Chinese Embassy in Angola held an unveiling ceremony of the anti-malaria center at the Luanda General Hospital (Hospital Geral de Luanda) on 23 October 2009, marking the beginning of its operations.
After the establishment of the center, it was envisaged that Chinese experts would set up and test the facilities, exchange ideas with local specialists, and provide technical training to medical staff. Four Chinese experts arrived on 15 September 2009 to carry out these goals (see Record ID#68603).
The Chinese Government also agreed to provide medical equipment and drugs to the center over a three year period following the establishment of the center.
The Chinese project title is 中国—安哥拉疟疾防治中心. The Portuguese project title is Centro de Prevenção E Tratamento de Malaria China-Angolana.
