Grant Description

In November 2009, at the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in Egypt, Premier Wen Jiabao announced eight new measures for assistance to Africa, including addressing climate change and strengthening China-Africa cooperation in the field of renewable energy.

Then, in order to implement one of these measures, the Chinese Ambassador to Morocco, Xu Jinghu, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy, Minerals, Water and Environment of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mohammed Yahya Zniber, signed letters of exchange regarding to the Solar Streetlight Project on February 8, 2012.

This project involved the provision and installation of 300 sets of solar powered streetlights and auxiliary equipment in the Ain El-Beida commune within the city of Fez. The project was reportedly completed in April 2013. However, a project handover certificate was not issued until June 5, 2017.
