Chinese Government provides RMB 40 million grant for Takeo Temple Restoration and Conservation Project

On December 21, 2009, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce signed the 'Exchange of Notes on the Restoration and Conservation Project for Takeo Temple' to provide a 40 million Chinese Yuan (about US$6 million) grant for the restoration work of the deteriorating Takeo temple in the complex of Angkor Archaeological Park.

The project name in Chinese is 茶胶寺保护修复工程. The Exchange of Letters was signed by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, Cabinet Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and H.E. Chen Jian, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China.

On 27 November 2010, the ground breaking ceremony was presided over by Cai Wu, Minister of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, and Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, Minister of the Council of Ministers, as well as officials from UNESCO and Apsara Authority. The restoration was expected to take 8-years and to be completed in 2018.

The maintenance project is organized and implemented by the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage and the International Economic Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce of China. The Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage undertakes the design and construction tasks. The project acceptance team is composed of 7 professionals from Zhejiang Ancient Architecture Institute.

The Temple was completed and handed over in September 2018.

The certificate of giving-receiving the conservation project of Takeo Temple was signed on January 3, 2019 ("Cambodia-China Sign Eight Agreements and MoUs", "Agreements with China inked"). An official handover ceremony was held on November 10, 2022.

Premier Li was accompanied by High Representative of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Chea Sophara.

The Ta Keo Temple is located in the north of Siem Reap in northwestern Cambodia, about 10 kilometers south of Siem Reap. It is part of the famous Angkor monument and is located outside the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom.

The existing site of the Ta Keo Temple covers an area of ​​about 46,000 square meters, and the main building covers an area of ​​13,100 square meters.
