On November 4 2002, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji signed multiple agreements (including Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreements) worth 100 million CNY (about US$12.5 million) in grant aid and interest-free loans to Cambodia.
The aid was promised after the Cambodian Prime Minsters requested assistance for upgrading Cambodia's transportation network and power plants during talks between Premier Zhu and Cambodian Prime Minster Hun Sen at ASEAN.
Under the agreements, China would: - Provide 50 million CNY in grant (see Record ID#32079) - Provide 50 million CNY in interest-free loans (see Record ID#33399) Premier Zhou also announced complete debt relief for the Cambodian Government (worth approximately $200 million USD) at the same meeting (see Record ID#32087).
In the news article by 'Kyodo News International' on 2 November 2002, the amount of grant aid and interest-free loans given to Cambodia by China was reported to be US$10m. However in the articles by 'WMRC Daily Analysis' and 'news 24 archives', the reported amount was US$12.5m.
