The Global Society on Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health (GSMERH) will hold its second world conference in Lisbon in September 2025.
The theme of the conference - Migration as a Driver of a Healthy, Racism-Free, Multi-Ethnic World - emphasizes the positive impact of migration in creating healthier, more inclusive societies.
It also highlights the vital role migration plays in enhancing population health and fostering diversity in both social and workplace settings.
Plenary and workshop sessions will cover issues including climate change and health, emergency preparedness, equity and decolonization, and conflict and peace building.
The conference will bring together approximately 600 researchers, practitioners and policy makers from across the globe to discuss the problems posed by and potential solutions to migration and related issues.
Special emphasis is being given to young researchers and practitioners and researchers from low- and middle-income countries.
In the lead up to the conference a series of regional virtual and in-person meetings are being held to maximize the breadth and scope of the issues considered at the global conference.
This second conference will build on the networks, collaboration and dialogue that began at and have continued since the first GSMERH conference in Scotland in 2018.
