Grant Description

Climate Spring works with screen industry partners globally to harness the unparalleled reach of TV and film to create conditions for systemic change on the climate crisis; shaping cultural norms and driving political and social mandates for action.

We aim to change how the public and decision-makers see the climate crisis - by putting human health at the heart of climate messaging in popular culture.

Communicating human health impacts and solutions of the climate crisis has been shown to engage the public in new ways, unlocking the stasis of high public concern but low public agency and political mandate.

By partnering as executive producers and providing development funding and editorial expertise, we ensure commercial viability and impactful climate storytelling. In our first two years we developed and advised 42 TV/film projects. Several are now heading into production and starting to have significant impact.

E.g. ITV’s After the Flood reached 20m UK viewers with messages about climate impacts, health and accountability.

Acknowledging the importance of diverse perspectives, we have a successful programme for historically marginalised writers with the BBC and BFI. This grant will enable us to develop 10 new TV/Film health-related projects reaching new audiences globally.
