Climate change is the biggest story of our lives, and US and global health organizations have highlighted that it is a critical health challenge.
Since Good Energy’s founding in 2019, we have helped Hollywood harness its power to catalyze a cultural and political transformation around climate.
To advance the aims of this grant, Good Energy will work with the USC Norman Lear Center’s Media Impact Project (MIP) and Hollywood, Health & Society (HH&S).
Together we will: 1) Advance compelling and accurate stories in scripted TV and film that connect human health and climate change by conducting research to generate insights about the current representation of climate and health on-screen, and to identify barriers and opportunities for embedding impactful narratives about climate and health in entertainment. 2) Support the work of those within the entertainment sector who use storytelling to shift public understanding—and subsequently, policy change—at the intersection of climate and human health. 3) Develop foundational insights through four key studies, supported by health and climate experts, that will bolster the cultural and creative advocacy efforts of the climate and health community, including Wellcome Trust and the philanthropic ecosystem.
