GCHA proposes to lead strategic policy engagement to drive health evidence and outcomes into policy discussions and decision making in UNFCCC processes to accelerate ambitious decision making to protect people and the planet.
Goals: 1) Health evidence, framing, and advocacy drive more ambitious outcomes from UNFCCC processes across critical negotiating streams and sectors, including mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, agriculture, and finance. 2) Where relevant to ensure protection and promotion of health, health language is explicitly integrated into COP negotiated outcomes. 3) More health stakeholders engage with UNFCCC processes, and a diverse health community are well prepared to engage effectively, building an ever-growing, representative, and increasingly influential health constituency to drive the needed policy change. 4) Annual evaluation of impact informs continuous learning and refinement of strategy and tactics, to increase effectiveness year on year, and contributes to the knowledge base on policy engagement for climate and health.
This project draws upon GCHA’s 10+ years of experience with the UNFCCC process, our deeply trusted relationships with health stakeholders in the space, and robust and growing relationships within the broader climate and cross-sectoral community.
