Grant Description
On May 30, 2011 and June 20, 2011, the Chinese Government and the Government of Lesotho signed an exchange of letters for the Radio and Television Network Expansion and Equipment Supply Project. The monetary value of the grant from the China Ministry of Commerce that supported this project is unknown.
The purpose of the project was to help Lesotho National Broadcasting Service (LNBS) install an upgraded audio/video news studio system and non-linear editing system, strengthen the capacity of Lesotho TV technical personnel to maintain the audio/video news studio system and non-linear editing system, and increase TV broadcasting efficiency.
This project is part of a larger effort by Lesotho’s Communications Ministry to transition from analog to digital and improve the coverage of Radio Lesotho, Ultimate FM and Lesotho Television.
On April 24, 2012, Anhui Telecom Engineering Co., Ltd. signed an implementation contract and the project officially commenced at the end of 2012. The project was officially completed and handed over to the Government of Lesotho on May 31, 2013. The Chinese Government previously donated more equipment to LNBS (see #31096) and trained LNBS personnel (see #71821).
The Chinese government also signed a licensing agreement with LNBS in 2013 (see #71820)
