DBT Wellcome Trust India Alliance Application for Phase III

The DBT/WT India Alliance (India Alliance) is a partnership reflecting a shared commitment to nurturing excellence in basic and clinical research, and establishing an enabling research ecosystem in India.

India Alliance has played a pivotal role in boosting research capacity through fellowships, attracting scientists to establish competitive research programmes in India and more recently, collaborative grants, addressing key public health challenges.

Building on these foundations, India Alliance aims to support bold, ambitious research ideas, led by individuals or teams, in basic and clinical domains, as well as, mentorship and research management initiatives enabling such efforts.

Knowledge-based solutions for current and emerging public health challenges, aligned to globally relevant national missions, will be a priority.

To nurture scientific leaders of tomorrow, high-level support, to young aspiring researchers building independent careers, is proposed.

To accelerate the advancement of knowledge and development of integrated solutions, collaborations that cut across disciplines, institutions and geographic boundaries, will be actively promoted.

Thus, key initiatives include, fostering talent through fellowships and catalytic career development grants; committed support to international, interdisciplinary, collaborations integrating basic and translational research; structured mentorship and research management initiatives and building partnerships that encourage diversity and drive discovery and innovation in India’s research ecosystem.
